Injury Surveillance

Built in partnership with the Oslo Sport Trauma Research Center

Many Sports Injuries Remain Undetected

Better Injury Surveillance is Essential

Numbers are alarming

Every year, undetected sports injuries and related illnesses affect millions of athletes, of all ages and levels. Overuse injuries represents 50% of all sports injuries.

Impacts are huge

Undetected health problems directly impact athlete performance, short and long term participation, team performance and individual psychological well-being. These often lead to chronic health problems and increased health costs.

Current methods are inadequate

Most injury surveillance systems only count time-loss or medical attention injuries. As a result, many health problems remain undetected, even if they significantly impact the athlete training and performance.

We can help

AthleteMonitoring incorporates the Oslo Sport Trauma Research Center (OSTRC) questionnaire. This validated injury surveillance tool improves early detection of overuse injuries by up to 90%, which will help you develop better injury prevention and intervention strategies.

An Innovative Approach for Optimal Illness and Injury Surveillance

The OSTRC questionnaire optimizes the communication between athletes and health professionals. It includes a weekly athlete-reported health survey, that can identify 10x more injuries than traditional injury surveillance methods. This questionnaire is ecommended by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and used in large scale epidemiological studies and injury surveillance programs. Graph adapted from Clarsen B, et al. Br J Sports Med 2014.

Robust, Accurate, Standardized, Validated

The most accurate injury surveillance method

The OSTRC questionnaire can detect overuse injuries, illnesses and acute injuries, as soon as they affect the athletes’ normal participation and performance.

Unlike conventional injury surveillance methods, which only count injuries that result in time-loss or medical attention, AthleteMonitoring helps you detect and track ALL health problems affecting athletes, and provides you with the most accurate information to evaluate and optimize your injury prevention initiatives

An essential tool for sports organizations of all sizes

AthleteMonitoring provides the ideal prospective injury surveillance solution for clubs, schools, sports leagues, Olympic programs, National Governing Body of Sport/NSOs and research institutes.
Fully integrated with AthleteMonitoring’s EMR system, the injury surveillance module, helps you to:
  • Implement a world-class ongoing injury surveillance program
  • Administer the OSTRC questionnaire and collect data from athletes via smartphone
  • Detect all injuries and health problems, even if they don’t lead to time loss or medical attention
  • Standardize diagnoses with internationally accepted coding systems such as OSICS-10, and SMDCS
  • Simplify electronic medical record (EMR) management with AthleteMonitoring’s electronic medical records system
  • Measure the magnitude, impact and severity of health problems
  • Produce health statistics, epidemiological reports, data tables and graphs
  • Get an immediate and accurate picture of your athletes’ health and availability

A complete health monitoring solution

With AthleteMonitoring you can analyze health and injury surveillance data for small and large number of athletes with dynamic graphs, individual and group dashboards, reports and exportable statistics.

Powerful Reporting, Instant Statistics

Key reports, injury surveillance metrics and statistics are calculated in real-time, including:
  • Incidence
  • Prevalence
  • Severity
  • Burden
  • Injury causes, locations and types
  • Illness types
  • Time loss
  • Diagnoses
  • Injury rates
  • Athlete availability to train/compete
  • Changes in athlete’s injury/illness status
  • And much more…
Did you know?

Over the course of a professional basketball season, the OSTRC questionnaire can identify 6.5 times as many overuse problems in comparison to those registered by the team physiotherapist

AthleteMonitoring in practice

Athletes complete a short weekly health survey on their preferred device
Athletes’ answers are securely transferred into AthleteMonitoring encrypted database. . Issues are automatically detected, severity scores calculated and incidents added to the electronic medical record system for easier diagnosis assignment and follow-up by sports medicine practitioners
Health professionals and epidemiologists can instantly access real-time graphs, dashboards, and download key statistics such as prevalence and incidence of health problems, response rates, time-loss, injury and illness data (duration, type, consequence on training volume and performance, etc.)

"I am very pleased with As a coach, it gave me unique insight into not only players injuries, illness and training and match load but gave us unique insight into other areas of their psychology that usually we don’t know. It is a wonderful tool for coaches"

Stefani Webb Head Women's Soccer Coach / Assistant AD, University of Texas - Tyler

"I could not be happier with what we have achieved this season with regards to the time efficient collection, automated analysis and storage of data with Our injury stats have been outstanding and I am sure that you have played a part in us achieving that. Thanks."

"Having available athletes is a key focus in our mission statement for the 35th Americas Cup. The AthleteMonitoring app has enabled us to efficiently record and analyse how our athletes feel on a day to day basis and how they react to training load. Our athletes find it easy to use and we find it easy to access athlete readiness. I have used other apps and Excel versions before but Francois and his team have created a cost efficient user friendly version that is the best I have used to date. They are always on hand to discuss data analysis and are open to change allowing coaches to recommend changes that would benefit their personal requirements & needs. This approach to helping coaches tailor their data collection is a breath of fresh air and has made our decision to use Athlete Monitoring beyond worthwhile."

Ben Williams Head of Strength & Conditioning, LandRover BAR, UK

"AthleteMontoring has allowed us to improve our athlete monitoring through the introduction of a daily, online athlete wellness questionnaire. We objectively track day-day performance changes across a range of physical readiness tests and also track training loads at an individual level. Francois and his team are readily available to provide assistance and are extremely proactive in discussing and implementing future additions and adjustments to the monitoring system so it continues to provide a simple, time efficient method of monitoring a professional sports team.
